08. 10. 2012 Interview with Eddy Leppens

„I’m feeling like a prince,“ says Eddy Leppens, the winner of the 2nd International master tournament in carom

The professional billard player, one of the hot favorites of the competition – the Belgian Eddy Leppens – master of the world in teams, vicemastr of the world, eightfold master of Belgium, who also placed as 3rd at the World Cup 2011 in Hurghada – won the finale in ANAG BILLIARD CUP, the best occupied tournament in the world in classic carom, that took place this weekend in Olomouc. “I was very hopping for the victory, because else I could stay at home,” says Eddy Leppens and continues: “I’m feeling like a prince in such a friendly atmosphere with pleasant audience.”

Leppens plays at the European as well as on the World level maily threeband, but he is also a great player of the classic discipline. In the finale he had to fight for the victory in a close match with the Spaniard Raúl Cuenca, who limbered up in front of the full auditorium. “I have to focus not only on the small matches during the whole tournament, but also on the main – the threeband, which is also a part of the Olomouc competition,” says Leppens before the beginning of the final game. “It is quite difficult and so I need some room for myself in such a tournament, to be able to concentrate on the play.”

And will you also come to Olomouc to defend the title next year? “Sure. Olomouc is a beautiful town and I didn’t have so much time for a sight-seeing as I would like to. Beyond I like to come to such a good organised tournament, where the players have such good conditions.”
